Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) seeks independent advisors for its Investment Committee. These External Members serve in a personal capacity, offering expertise in asset management, treasury, risk, and ESG investing. They provide strategic guidance to strengthen UNDP's investment oversight framework, ensuring prudent management of its portfolios and foreign exchange activities.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to serve as an independent advisor to the UNDP Investment Committee, providing expert advice and strategic guidance on UNDP's monetary and investment oversight framework. External Members contribute to ensuring the Treasury unit manages investments prudently and with due process, enhancing its capabilities. The role strengthens governance, risk oversight, and institutional investment discipline across UNDP's portfolios and foreign exchange activities, focusing on safety, liquidity, income, and socially responsible investing. This advisory position aims to enhance long-term institutional resilience and fiduciary discipline.
Responsibilities
External Members are expected to actively participate in Committee deliberations, offering guidance on investment policy, guidelines, strategic asset allocation, and ESG/SRI integration. They will review portfolio performance against benchmarks, assess various risks (credit, liquidity, market, currency, operational, counterparty), and examine compliance breaches. Additionally, they will advise on non-USD currency management, hedging strategies, and the selection and appropriateness of custodians, investment managers, and counterparties. The role involves reviewing external service provider performance and providing constructive challenges on significant investment proposals or strategic changes to support UNDP's investment objectives and fiduciary responsibilities.
Work Experience
A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant professional experience is required, particularly with governance frameworks applicable to large institutional investment portfolios. Experience should align with areas like institutional asset management, treasury operations, fixed income, foreign exchange, risk management, or ESG/SRI investing.
