Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is a global organization focused on sustainable development and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Within its Bureau for Policy and Programme Support and Crisis Bureau, UNDP implements projects supporting crisis prevention, response, and recovery. This role is part of the Global Early Warnings for All (EW4All) Initiative, a UN-led effort to protect populations from hazardous weather and climate events through early warning systems.
Job Purpose
This role serves as the Global Project Manager for the UNDP-implemented GCF Multi-Country Project on Early Warnings for All (EW4All). The primary purpose is to lead and coordinate the effective implementation of this multi-country project across seven target nations. This involves ensuring coherent project execution in collaboration with various partners, including Pillar Leads, national implementation units, and UNDP Country Offices. The role is crucial for achieving the project's objectives, contributing to the broader UN Secretary-General's initiative to ensure global protection from climate-related hazards through robust early warning systems by 2027.
Responsibilities
The Global Project Manager is responsible for the overall direction, management, and coordination of the EW4All multi-country project. This includes developing project strategy, annual work plans, and monitoring systems aligned with global and national targets. The role involves managing the project budget, overseeing procurement, and ensuring compliance with UNDP rules and regulations. Key duties include organizing Project Board meetings, coordinating implementation plans, managing risks, and supervising project personnel. The manager will also ensure adherence to environmental and social management plans, facilitate project evaluations and audits, and prepare performance reports for donors. Day-to-day management encompasses work planning, budgeting, contract management, and reporting.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of professional experience (with a Master's degree) or 9 years (with a Bachelor's degree) is required in international development organizations, NGOs, or bilateral development cooperation agencies. This includes at least 3 years of project management or coordination experience, proven experience in developing analytical and capacity-building content, and experience with global programs. Experience in disaster preparedness, risk reduction, and early warning systems is essential.
