Finance Intern
Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) China Country Office is part of a global network dedicated to ending poverty, reducing inequalities, and protecting the planet. UNDP China partners with the government and various stakeholders to advance development and integrate Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Finance unit collaborates with operations and programme teams to manage financial operations and resolve complex issues.
Job Purpose
This internship role within the UNDP China Finance unit supports the implementation of operational strategies and procedures. The intern will assist in ensuring compliance with UN/UNDP financial regulations, contribute to financial analyses and reports, and conduct research for process optimization. The position involves processing financial documentation, maintaining expenditure control systems, liaising with other UN agencies, and supporting financial dashboard monitoring. The role aims to provide practical experience in financial management within an international development context, contributing to the efficient operation of the Finance unit and the achievement of UNDP's mission in China.
Responsibilities
Ensure full compliance with UN/UNDP financial rules, regulations, processes, records, and reports. Provide inputs for work plan elaboration and assist in preparing financial analyses and related reports. Conduct basic research within the Finance Unit, analyze workflows, and produce reports on process optimization. Liaise with other United Nations agencies for information related to financial transactions. Verify and process financial documentation, including vouchers, supporting documents, and invoices. Maintain the internal expenditures control system, ensuring accurate recording and posting of transactions. Follow up with other teams for financial transaction-related information. Assist in analyzing and monitoring financial dashboards. Maintain a proper filing system for financial records and documents.
Work Experience
Experience in using online databases or data management tools is required. Experience in performing repetitive and routine tasks related to finance screening, documentation, data input, transaction tracking, filing, and information provision is beneficial.
Skills
Ability to perform routine finance tasks, review data and identify discrepancies, produce accurate records, strong IT skills, ability to provide input to business process re-engineering and new system implementation. Basic knowledge of accounting and financial management. Fluency in both Chinese and English.
