Job Purpose
The Small Grants Programme Associate supports the implementation of the GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP) within UNDP Suriname. This role is crucial for ensuring the effective delivery of grants to non-governmental and community-based organizations, enabling them to address environmental challenges such as climate change and biodiversity loss while promoting sustainable livelihoods. The Associate will assist in project cycle management, financial administration, and operational support, ensuring alignment with SGP objectives and UNDP standards. This position contributes to achieving global environmental benefits through community-led initiatives and strengthening the capacity of local partners in Suriname.
Responsibilities
Support day-to-day programme and project implementation, ensuring alignment with expected results and work plans. Assist in screening project proposals and evaluating their financial aspects. Develop and revise grant application forms and other programme management tools. Advise potential grantees on project preparation and guidelines. Provide ongoing support and guidance to grantees. Assist in project implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and field visits. Maintain professional relationships with NGOs, government institutions, donors, and other stakeholders. Support regular reporting to management and prepare monitoring surveys. Manage programme financial activities, including reviewing financial reports, processing payments, and maintaining financial records. Draft budget proposals and manage petty cash. Provide administrative support for procurement, filing, and event organization. Support knowledge management and communication efforts, including website updates and event facilitation. Assist in project audits and ensure compliance with SGP and UNDP procedures.
Work Experience
A minimum of six years of progressively responsible administrative or programme experience is required with secondary education, or three years with a bachelor's degree. Experience in document review, report production, and project management/support at the community level is beneficial. Experience with monitoring and evaluation, results-based management, and computer software (MS Word, Excel, databases) is advantageous.
