Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Mozambique supports national efforts to eradicate poverty, reduce inequalities, and accelerate sustainable development. The Nature, Climate, and Energy (NCE) Hub focuses on integrated, nature-based solutions. This Project Manager role is within the NCE Hub, specifically for the TRANSFORM child project, aimed at enhancing wildlife conservation and livelihoods at a landscape scale.
Job Purpose
The Project Manager will lead and manage the implementation of the TRANSFORM project in Mozambique. This involves providing technical and operational leadership for the successful execution of project activities, ensuring delivery of results within budget and timelines, and maintaining high-quality standards. The role requires coordinating daily project activities, managing resources, and ensuring alignment with UNDP policies and procedures. The Project Manager will also be responsible for financial management and disbursements, reporting to the Project Board and working under the supervision of the Head of the Environment, Climate Change, and Resilience Unit.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include coordinating effective project planning and implementation, developing work plans and budgets, managing day-to-day activities, and ensuring timely delivery of outputs. This involves providing technical advice, facilitating stakeholder platforms, and integrating gender equality perspectives. The role also entails establishing and maintaining strong partnerships with government officials, NGOs, businesses, and beneficiaries, and providing technical support to implementing partners. Monitoring progress against targets, identifying and managing risks, and preparing comprehensive reports for UNDP and donors are crucial. Additionally, the Project Manager will facilitate knowledge management, capacity building, and advocacy related to the project's thematic areas, ensuring proper operational and financial closure of the project.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant experience as a lead project manager in related sectors is required for candidates with a Master's degree, or four years for those with a Bachelor's degree. Experience in gathering and processing data, managing work teams, and supervising technical assessments is necessary. Experience with public participation, government collaboration, GEF projects, or UNDP projects is desirable.
