The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Suriname is implementing a project to reduce threats to biodiversity in the Suriname Amazon by securing equitable management of protected and productive landscapes. This initiative, funded by GEF and UNDP, focuses on strengthening institutional capacities for integrated landscape management and promoting policies for sustainable forest management and nature tourism.
Job Purpose
The Technical and Administrative Associate will provide high-quality technical and monitoring support for the implementation of project activities, focusing on sustainable landscape management and biodiversity conservation. This role involves supporting evidence-based project management through technical coordination with stakeholders, ensuring robust data and analysis guide implementation. The associate will contribute to achieving project outcomes by facilitating technical collaboration, providing analytical support, and coordinating efforts with government counterparts, NGOs, private sector actors, and community stakeholders to ensure effective project delivery and results.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include supporting technical monitoring of project implementation through field missions, data collection, and validation of results. The associate will monitor progress against workplans and indicators, provide technical oversight of field interventions, and assess the performance of grant-supported initiatives. They will also facilitate technical coordination with diverse stakeholders, support implementing partners in applying project methodologies, and contribute to capacity-building activities. Additionally, the role involves providing technical inputs for landscape-level planning, developing technical studies, and supporting monitoring, evaluation, and learning processes, including data analysis and reporting. Facilitating knowledge management and communication by disseminating technical knowledge and contributing to knowledge products is also a core function.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience is required with secondary education, or 4 years with a Bachelor's degree. Experience should be in project/programme implementation, technical monitoring, data collection, analysis of development or environmental projects, and supporting results frameworks and evaluation processes. Experience working with multi-stakeholder environments and in areas like climate change, biodiversity, or sustainable landscape management is beneficial.
Skills
Proficiency in MS Office and data management tools. Strong experience in monitoring, data analysis, and results-based management. Experience in technical monitoring, data collection, and analysis. Ability to support results frameworks and evaluation processes. Experience in knowledge management and reporting. Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including government and NGOs. Fluency in Dutch and English is required. Working knowledge of Sranang Tongo is desired.
