Organizational Context
The Driver role is situated within the UNDP Country Office (BP) in the Crisis Resilience department in the Central African Republic. Operating under the supervision of the Administrative Analyst, this position is integral to the office's mandate. The Driver provides essential, reliable, and safe transportation services to UN staff, consultants, experts, and personnel on mission, supporting both program and operations functions.
Job Purpose
The primary purpose of the Driver role is to provide reliable and safe transportation services for UN personnel, consultants, guests, and visitors, both within and outside the duty station in the Central African Republic. This position is crucial for supporting the operations and programs of the UNDP Country Office, ensuring the efficient and secure movement of staff and resources. The Driver is responsible for maintaining the assigned vehicle in excellent working condition through diligent daily checks, timely minor repairs, and arranging for major repairs as needed. They must strictly adhere to all safe driving regulations and ensure the availability of essential vehicle documents, safety equipment, and first aid kits. By demonstrating a client-focused approach, a high sense of responsibility, courtesy, and tact, the Driver fosters positive interactions with diverse individuals and contributes significantly to the overall operational effectiveness and safety of the office and its mission.
Responsibilities
The Driver's main responsibilities include providing safe and reliable transportation services for UN personnel, consultants, guests, and visitors, both within and outside the designated duty station. This involves meticulously ensuring the assigned vehicle is always clean and maintained in excellent working condition through daily checks, performing timely minor repairs, and arranging for major repairs, oil changes, tire checks, and brake inspections as needed. The Driver is responsible for strictly adhering to all safe driving rules and regulations, including ensuring the vehicle is parked only in authorized and secure areas. A critical duty is to ensure the continuous availability of all required vehicle documents, such as vehicle insurance, logbooks, a current office directory, and a city map, along with essential safety equipment including a comprehensive first aid kit and necessary spare parts. Furthermore, the incumbent is expected to manage the administrative aspects of vehicle use, such as filling logbooks and monitoring fuel consumption. The Driver will also perform other tasks consistent with their functional profile, deemed necessary for the effective operation of the office and the organization, always demonstrating a high sense of responsibility and client-focused approach.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience as an administrative or executive driver is required. Experience with an international organization, NGO, or public administration is desirable.
Skills
Driving regulations and basic vehicle maintenance, ability to follow instructions, respectful communication, proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel), vehicle fleet management, record management, clear communication (written/oral), knowledge of UN ethics. Fluency in French and Sango is required; English is an asset. Desired skills include experience in UN/humanitarian environments, HF/VHF radio use, remote field missions, administrative vehicle management (logbooks, fuel monitoring), knowledge of security protocols, and the ability to manage multiple tasks with competing priorities.
