Job Purpose
The Ambulance Driver is responsible for providing reliable and safe driving services, transporting patients to hospitals, and supporting medical teams during care and evacuations. This role ensures the prompt and secure transfer of critically ill or injured individuals, contributing directly to the UNHCC's objective of safeguarding the health of UN personnel. The driver will also manage accident procedures, maintain the ambulance, ensure necessary documents and supplies are available, and perform administrative errands, all while operating within a challenging and potentially high-risk environment.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include providing safe and timely patient transport from various locations to hospitals, assisting patients with boarding, and supporting medical staff during treatments and evacuations. The role also involves managing accident protocols according to UN regulations, disinfecting the ambulance, and safely disposing of medical waste. Daily vehicle maintenance, including checks and minor repairs, is essential, along with maintaining vehicle logs and informing the administrative assistant of maintenance needs. Ensuring all mandatory vehicle documents are up-to-date and that first-aid kits and spare parts are available is also crucial. Additionally, the driver will perform administrative errands, such as urgent purchases and collecting medical supplies, adhering to UN procedures and utilizing petty cash for payments.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of experience as a driver with a clean driving record is required. Proven experience driving ambulances and other vehicles (vans, etc.) is essential. Experience in assisting individuals with reduced mobility is also necessary. Experience within an NGO or UN agency is desirable.
Skills
Proven ambulance and vehicle driving experience. Experience assisting individuals with reduced mobility. Basic first aid/paramedic training. Knowledge of radio transmission codes. Defensive driving skills. Proficiency in French (oral and written). Familiarity with local languages and other UN official languages is an asset.
