Job Purpose
The Project Management Specialist will coordinate efforts to create effective and resilient strategic planning for climate change adaptation in Mali. This role is crucial for integrating stakeholder participation and ensuring that mobilized resources translate into tangible actions that reduce the vulnerability of sectors and communities to climate change impacts. The specialist will work closely with national authorities to strengthen institutional frameworks, improve evidence-based adaptation planning, and enhance the country's capacity to access climate finance, thereby contributing to Mali's socio-economic development and resilience.
Responsibilities
The Project Management Specialist will oversee the project team and manage overall project execution, including technical, administrative, and financial aspects. Key responsibilities include facilitating effective collaboration among diverse stakeholders (government, UN agencies, private sector, NGOs), organizing committee meetings, and ensuring follow-up on decisions. The role involves developing annual work plans and performance reports, piloting sectoral studies, and coordinating consultants to ensure sectoral coherence. Ensuring the integration of social, environmental, and gender standards in sectoral plans is critical. The specialist will supervise project activity implementation, budget management, procurement, and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with UNDP and GCF standards. Additionally, the role entails leading capacity-building efforts for climate finance, supporting the prioritization of adaptation options, and fostering national ownership through multi-stakeholder consultations. Knowledge management, documentation, and advocacy for climate adaptation are also key duties.
Work Experience
Significant professional experience in project management, particularly in climate change adaptation, environmental management, or sustainable development is required. Experience working with international organizations, national governments, and diverse stakeholders in developing countries is highly desirable. Proven track record in resource mobilization and partnership building is essential.
