Job Purpose
The National Project Manager (NPM) is responsible for the overall day-to-day management of the SAFE Project in Solomon Islands on behalf of the Implementing Partner. This includes mobilizing project resources, supervising staff and consultants, and ensuring effective project implementation. The NPM will lead the Project Management Unit (PMU), manage work plans, activities, and reporting to the Project Board and UNDP. A significant portion of the role involves providing technical oversight, guidance, and coordination across multiple provinces and technical areas, ensuring the project's objectives are met through strategic partnerships, robust monitoring, and effective knowledge management.
Responsibilities
The National Project Manager will oversee the SAFE Project's daily operations, reporting to the Resilience and Climate Change Unit Team Leader. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining strategic partnerships with government, NGOs, and other stakeholders; leading the identification and onboarding of implementing partners; and contributing to project communications and resource mobilization. The role involves leading project monitoring and evaluation, developing results frameworks, managing risks, and coordinating corporate, donor, and government reporting. Additionally, the NPM will facilitate knowledge and capacity building, organize training and workshops, capture lessons learned, and promote advocacy for UNDP's work in biodiversity conservation and sustainable land management.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of project administration and technical experience is required for candidates with a Master's degree, or 7 years for those with a Bachelor's degree, demonstrating increasing responsibilities. Experience in development issues within Pacific Island countries is essential, along with at least one year managing GEF-funded projects, preferably with UNDP. Experience with government institutions, UNDP, and GEF procedures is also necessary.
