Organizational Context
The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP), implemented by UNDP, provides direct grants to non-governmental and community-based organizations. These grants support initiatives for climate change adaptation, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable livelihoods, aiming to generate global environmental benefits. The programme has a long history of funding community-based projects worldwide.
Job Purpose
The Small Grants Programme Assistant supports the National Coordinator in the day-to-day implementation of the GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP) in Cameroon. This role is crucial for ensuring project activities align with expected results and work plans. The assistant will assist in screening project proposals, managing grant application processes, and providing guidance to grantees. They will also support financial management, administrative tasks, and knowledge management efforts to enhance the visibility and effectiveness of SGP initiatives. The position contributes to achieving global environmental benefits through community-based approaches.
Responsibilities
Support programme implementation by assisting the National Coordinator in screening project concepts and proposals, managing grant application forms, and advising potential grantees. Provide day-to-day support to ongoing projects and grantees, assist with monitoring and evaluation, and prepare minutes for National Steering Committee meetings. Maintain professional relationships with stakeholders and assist in reporting to UNDP and other relevant bodies. Manage programme finances by reviewing financial reports, processing payments, maintaining financial records, and preparing budget proposals. Provide administrative support, including procurement, office management, and maintaining filing systems for administrative, financial, and project documents. Support knowledge management and communication efforts by assisting with visibility materials, event organization, and website updates. Assist in project audits and ensure compliance with SGP and UNDP procedures.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible administrative or programme experience is required with a secondary education. Two years of experience is required with a bachelor's degree. Demonstrated experience in reviewing documents and producing meeting reports is necessary. Experience in project management at the local level, monitoring and evaluation, and using office software packages is desirable.
