The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Chad is implementing a project focused on strengthening social cohesion between host communities, returnees, and refugees in the Ouaddaï, Sila, and Wadi-Fira provinces. This initiative addresses the significant strain on natural resources and resulting tensions caused by the influx of refugees and returnees from Sudan, exacerbated by climate change. The project aims to prevent conflicts and foster social harmony through dialogue and improved local conflict management mechanisms.
Job Purpose
The Conflict Resilience Analyst will support the UNDP's "Peacebuilding" portfolio in Chad, residing in N'Djamena and conducting field interventions in targeted provinces. The primary purpose of this role is to contribute to the successful implementation of the "Strengthening Social Cohesion" project by preventing conflicts and promoting social cohesion through participatory and sustainable approaches. This involves in-depth analysis of local conflict dynamics, risk mapping, developing local prevention strategies, and ensuring all project activities adhere to a conflict-sensitive "Do No Harm" approach. The analyst will also support monitoring, coordination, and reporting, contributing to the overall peacebuilding efforts within the country.
Responsibilities
The Conflict Resilience Analyst will contribute to project success by focusing on conflict prevention and social cohesion. Key duties include conducting in-depth analyses of local conflict causes and dynamics, developing risk maps, and formulating local conflict prevention and community resilience strategies. The role requires ensuring all project activities are conflict-sensitive and adhere to the "Do No Harm" principle. Responsibilities also encompass supporting the monitoring and coordination of project activities, participating in data collection and analysis, and facilitating consultations with local communities and authorities. Additionally, the analyst will contribute to the design and updating of risk maps, support peace and social cohesion indicator monitoring, and assist in producing periodic reports. The role involves contributing to the formulation of local resilience strategies, applying Results-Based Management tools, and ensuring planned activities align with project outcomes. Building strategic partnerships, supporting resource mobilization, and facilitating knowledge sharing and capacity building are also key aspects of the position.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional experience in conflict analysis, peacebuilding, social cohesion, or a related field is required. Experience working in complex humanitarian or development settings, particularly in the Sahel region or similar contexts, is highly desirable. Experience with UN agencies or international organizations is an advantage.
