Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Colombia supports the government's transition to peace and its development goals. The Sustainable Development Cluster, specifically the Sustainable Development portfolio, focuses on environmentally sustainable economic and social development to improve the lives of vulnerable populations. This role is within a project aimed at increasing the income of small rural farmers through value chain and commercialization strengthening in specific regions.
Job Purpose
The Technical Assistant for Value Chains and Commercialization will provide integral technical assistance to selected value chains, focusing on increasing the productive, climate adaptation, commercial, and associative capacities of rural organizations and farmers. The role supports the project's objective to enhance agricultural productivity, promote good agricultural practices, facilitate access to markets and financing, and improve post-harvest skills. By strengthening commercialization processes, business plans, and market access, this position directly contributes to increasing household incomes for participating farmers and fostering more resilient and sustainable agricultural systems in line with the 2030 Agenda.
Responsibilities
Provide technical assistance to families and productive organizations to strengthen commercialization capacities, ensuring adoption of project-defined practices. Support producer organizations in managing and formalizing commercial agreements to improve negotiation conditions and monitor their implementation. Assist in commercial processes, ensuring logistical efficiency while organizations build their capabilities. Aid in developing and implementing business plans and commercial strategies aligned with environmental sustainability and climate resilience. Support market analysis and supply/demand studies, and facilitate articulation between producers, organizations, buyers, the private sector, and financial institutions. Assist organizations in participating in commercial promotion events and negotiation processes. Identify and facilitate access to relevant financial instruments and implement financial literacy programs. Support the management of agro-climatic insurance policies and mainstream gender, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability approaches. Assist in developing organizational strengthening plans and follow up on grant agreements. Provide logistical and administrative support for project activities, coordinate with public and private actors, and collaborate with team members for effective support. Report project progress, risks, and provide information for project reports, supporting knowledge creation and sharing.
Work Experience
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience with a secondary education, or 2 years with a university degree. Relevant experience includes project formulation/management in agriculture/rural development, organizational/business/technical support to small producers, managing grant agreements, supporting commercial agreements, and financial education with rural communities.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience in coordinating multidisciplinary technical teams. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and control resources for specific objectives. Skills in monitoring and evaluation, client satisfaction and management, and partnership development. Knowledge of agricultural value chains, climate change adaptation in agriculture, and sustainable development principles.
