The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Office of Audit and Investigations (OAI) is seeking three interns for its Investigations Section. This section conducts investigations into allegations of misconduct, fraud, and financial irregularities involving UNDP personnel and third parties. Unit 1 specifically provides support in AI, Data Science, IT Forensics, and Data Analytics.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support and enhance UNDP's internal audit and investigation functions by developing functional applications that leverage data-driven approaches like AI, ML, and process automation. Interns will contribute to augmenting existing tools with advanced data analytics and streamlining manual processes. The role is designed to provide practical experience in applying cutting-edge technologies to real-world investigative challenges, thereby improving the efficiency, accuracy, and impact of OAI's operations. This opportunity complements academic studies by offering hands-on experience in a critical area of organizational integrity and compliance.
Responsibilities
Interns will contribute to developing applications that utilize AI, ML, and process automation to enhance internal audit and investigation functions. Key duties include evaluating the applicability of these technologies for fraud investigations, designing and developing prototypes for innovative data analytics applications in fraud detection and audit processes, and refining existing tools to improve integration into investigation workflows. Interns will also participate in efforts to boost the efficiency and accuracy of investigative assignments through data-driven solutions and document findings, prototype functionalities, and use cases for knowledge sharing.
Work Experience
Required: Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Hands-on experience developing, testing, and using AI or ML technologies for cognitive analysis and process automation. Familiarity with AI/ML languages such as Python, R, and SQL. Familiarity with forensic fraud investigations and internal audits is a plus.
