Project Associate In Nuratau Landscape
Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Uzbekistan is implementing a project focused on ecosystem restoration and conservation within the Nuratau landscape, aligning with the National Development Strategy until 2030. This initiative addresses ecosystem degradation, particularly in steppe grassland, shrubland, and forest dryland areas, driven by factors like overgrazing and unsustainable resource use. The project aims to scale innovative approaches to catalyze transformational shifts in land management.
Job Purpose
The Project Associate will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the immediate implementation of project activities within the Nuratau Landscape, specifically in the Forish, Khatirshi, and Nurota districts. This role involves managing local consultants and subcontractors to ensure all project activities are delivered in line with UNDP standards and contribute to the project's intended results. The position supports the effective coordination and delivery of ecosystem restoration and conservation efforts, contributing to the achievement of global environmental benefits and improved land management across 1.3 million hectares. The role is crucial for facilitating technical and logistical support, monitoring progress, and ensuring effective communication and knowledge sharing.
Responsibilities
The Project Associate will provide technical support for project planning, implementation, and reporting, including contributions to Project Implementation Reports and GEF tracking tools. Responsibilities include liaising with stakeholders, government agencies, and project partners to facilitate activity management and implementation. The role involves providing technical and logistical support to subcontractors and consultants during field work and training. The incumbent will monitor and document field experiences and lessons learned, and facilitate the implementation of the project monitoring plan, compiling baseline and impact data. Additionally, the Project Associate will support knowledge building, sharing, and capacity-building activities, including disseminating project results and best practices, and contributing to knowledge networks.
Work Experience
A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in administration and finance is required with a secondary education. This requirement is reduced to 3 years with a Bachelor's degree. Experience demonstrating strong organizational and administrative skills, result and client-orientation, and ability to work with local partners is essential. Prior experience in land degradation neutrality, climate adaptation, ecosystem conservation, forestry management, and working with local partners at national and municipal levels is desirable.
