This role operates within the Nature, Climate, and Energy department, contributing to strategic planning and project execution under the guidance of the Deputy Resident Representative and Team Leader, Climate.
Job Purpose
The Technical Specialist for Climate and Nature is responsible for the strategic formulation and management of a high-impact climate portfolio in Egypt. This role involves analyzing socio-economic trends to design innovative, technology-driven projects that promote inclusive growth and reach marginalized communities. The specialist provides technical guidance, oversees project delivery, ensures compliance with UNDP's results-based management tools, and fosters a collaborative environment through mentoring and knowledge exchange. The position is crucial for aligning project outcomes with the UNDP Egypt Country Programme Document and the broader UNDP Strategic Plan, translating technical outputs into sustainable policy advice.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include providing top-quality technical advisory services, including cutting-edge policy advice and facilitating policy dialogues. This involves analyzing the socio-economic situation, contributing to technical standards based on best practices, and preparing/revising project documents related to climate change adaptation, energy transition, nature-based solutions, disaster risk reduction, land degradation, water security, voluntary carbon markets, and chemical/waste management. The role also entails strategic planning for portfolio development, managing annual work plans, and ensuring effective programme implementation aligned with UNDP policies. Additionally, the specialist will support project activities, manage financial resources, monitor progress, identify risks, and contribute to reporting. Building strategic partnerships with various stakeholders, including UN agencies, government institutions, donors, and the private sector, is essential for resource mobilization. Finally, the role involves contributing to knowledge management by documenting lessons learned, developing sharing materials, and participating in communities of practice.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible relevant experience (with a Master's degree) or 7 years (with a Bachelor's degree) is required at the national or international level. This experience should focus on providing technical advice, conducting research, formulating policies, and/or developing and managing complex projects in climate-related sectors. Experience in fostering networks and partnerships, and proficiency with office software and web-based management systems are also necessary.
