Organizational Context
The Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) globally leads and supports the UN security management system, enabling UN programs in complex environments. This role is within the UNDSS Cameroon office in Maroua, reporting to the Field Security Coordination Officer (FSCO) and assisting the Security Adviser. The position contributes to ensuring the safety and security of UN personnel, premises, and assets.
Job Purpose
The Field Security Associate (FSA) in Maroua, Cameroon, supports the Area Security Coordinator in ensuring the safety and security of UN personnel, premises, and assets. This involves preparing risk assessments, maintaining security standards, updating security plans, and disseminating security information. The role contributes to the effective delivery of UN programs by providing trusted security leadership and solutions, ultimately supporting peace, human rights, and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include assisting in the maintenance and review of the UN Security Plan, supporting its implementation, and monitoring security measures. The role involves reporting security incidents affecting UN staff, offices, and assets, and preparing relevant security reports. Additionally, the FSA will organize and deliver security awareness training, provide security orientations, and conduct security briefings. Other duties include conducting security evaluations, advising on residential security, maintaining the warden system, administering a pass and ID system, and liaising with commercial security providers. General administrative support to the FSCO is also required.
Work Experience
A minimum of 6 years of experience in safety or security, law enforcement, or related areas is required with a secondary education. This requirement is reduced to 3 years with a bachelor's degree. Prior experience with the UN system, international NGOs, or in humanitarian/development settings is desired. Proficiency in computer applications (MS Office) and experience with the Cameroonian security environment are required. Experience with local context and HF/VHF radio operation is desired.
