The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) in Côte d'Ivoire is responsible for leading and supporting UN security operations and overseeing the decentralized security management system. Job Purpose
The SOC Clerk is responsible for managing the radio station and all associated equipment. This role involves handling incoming and outgoing security communications using designated equipment, ensuring its availability for efficient office operations and timely task completion. The position operates under the general supervision of the Security Advisor and direct supervision of the Field Security Assistant (FSA), working closely with UN agencies and reporting to the Local Security Assistant.
Responsibilities
The SOC Clerk will provide communication support to UN agencies, managing the UN telecommunications room and disseminating security information as directed. This includes daily radio checks with other offices, acting as a communication relay for field vehicles, and tracking official field missions. The role involves discreetly managing incoming/outgoing calls via radio, GSM/Satellite phone, and email, and sending/receiving messages strictly for official purposes. Additionally, the clerk will support UN personnel safety by contacting security forces for emergencies, reporting security situations to the FSA/SA, and briefing staff on radio communication. Maintenance of technical equipment, including radio installation/programming, logging calls, inventory management, and equipment transfer tracking, is also a key responsibility. The role requires the ability to work night shifts and contribute to knowledge sharing.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in communication and telecommunications is required. Experience with computers, office software (MS Word, Excel), databases, and web-based management systems is necessary. Experience using HF and VHF radios is also required.
