The UN Health Manager role in Accra, Ghana, is part of the UN common services, administered by UNDP. This position is crucial for mitigating health and security risks faced by UN field personnel. The Health Manager oversees the UN Clinic, ensuring high-quality medical services, managing staff and resources, and facilitating medical evacuations.

Job Purpose

The UN Health Manager in Accra, Ghana, is responsible for providing comprehensive clinical services, including consultations and emergency care, to UN staff and their dependents. This role involves supervising clinic staff, promoting proactive occupational health policies, and managing the day-to-day operations of the UN Clinic. The incumbent plays a key role in emergency response, medical evacuations, and preventative health outreach, contributing to the well-being and safety of the UN community in Ghana. The position operates under the administrative guidance of the UN Resident Coordinator and technical supervision of the UN Medical Director.

Responsibilities

The UN Health Manager is accountable for comprehensive clinic service management, including full-time attendance, emergency response according to international protocols, triage, stabilization, and daily clinical duties such as examinations and immunizations. Responsibilities extend to medical administration, including coordinating medical evacuations, managing medical clearances, sick leave, and reporting. The role involves establishing relationships with local medical facilities and ensuring proper confidential record-keeping. Furthermore, the Health Manager supervises the medical service team, manages daily operations, ensures availability of supplies and equipment, and oversees staff training and development. Advisory and liaison duties include briefing senior management on healthcare matters, representing the medical service, and overseeing health communication products.

Work Experience

A minimum of 5 years of progressive clinical experience (with an advanced degree) or 7 years (with a first-level degree) is required. This includes residency/internship in a medical specialty, experience with international organizations, and two years of managerial experience in the medical field. Experience in occupational health is highly desirable. Familiarity with medical record systems and proficiency in MS Office are expected.
