The Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (ICPSD) is a global thematic center within UNDP, dedicated to leveraging the private sector for development. Job Purpose
This Fellowship aims to develop and implement Geographic Information Systems (GIS) components for the Future Tech Leaders (FTL) Programme in Brazil, which focuses on AI-led space technologies. The Fellow will be instrumental in designing GIS curriculum, delivering training sessions, and contributing to research and knowledge management within the SDG AI Lab. The role supports the FTL Programme's objective of fostering young tech specialists and enhancing the space innovation ecosystem, ultimately contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals through digital transformation and capacity building.
Responsibilities
The Fellow will primarily support the Future Tech Leaders (FTL) Programme by developing and delivering GIS training components for bootcamps and community trainings in Brazil, including hosting office hours and providing individual/group assistance. A significant portion of the role involves supporting Portuguese-speaking implementations of the FTL and Frontier Tech Leaders programmes, organizing events, and facilitating communication within the global FTL community. Additionally, the Fellow will contribute to the development and implementation of digital GIS solutions for SDGs, utilizing geospatial data processing, analysis, and cartographic tools. This includes creating maps and infographics, developing GIS and ML solutions for development challenges, and managing project implementation processes. The role also includes providing administrative support and other duties as required.
Work Experience
Experience in implementing automated workflows with geodata and scripting, particularly with Jupyter Notebook, is required. Proven experience with GIS software and libraries like QGIS or ArcGIS, GDAL, Rasterio, Geopandas, and Fiona is necessary. Experience with Geoserver, PostGIS, and relational databases is preferred.
Skills
Strong programming skills (preferably Python), experience with GIS software and libraries, geospatial data processing and analysis, developing GIS and Machine Learning solutions, curriculum development, training delivery, excellent written and verbal communication skills in Portuguese and English, analytical skills, organizational skills, and adaptability.
