Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is a global organization focused on sustainable development and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Within its Bureau for Policy and Programme Support, the Nature, Climate, Energy, Waste and Chemicals Hubs work with partners to integrate environmental and climate concerns into national policies and implement extensive in-country programming. A dedicated Food Systems team supports country offices in transforming food systems towards sustainability, resilience, and equity.
Job Purpose
This role supports the Food and Power Initiative (FPI) and the Conscious Food Systems Alliance (CoFSA), two key programs within UNDP's Food Systems team. The purpose is to integrate these initiatives by providing research, analytical, and partnership support. The role will contribute to understanding and addressing power dynamics in food systems transformation, fostering inner capacities for systemic change, and developing knowledge products. It aims to strengthen marginalized communities' roles, support policymakers, and advance a new paradigm for food systems transformation that considers cultural, spiritual, and inner development aspects, ultimately contributing to more equitable and resilient food systems globally.
Responsibilities
The Research and Partnerships Analyst will conduct in-depth research and analysis on power asymmetries, political economy, and inner change for food systems transformation. Responsibilities include developing high-quality case studies, reports, and blogs; moderating the FPI Community of Practice; and supporting the design and facilitation of learning events. The role will implement monitoring, evaluation, and learning processes to assess program impact and act as a bridge between FPI and CoFSA for integration and knowledge sharing. Additionally, the analyst will coordinate FPI's Working Groups and Advisory Committee, conduct outreach for new FPI members, and participate in relevant external networks. The position also involves identifying, synthesizing, and documenting best practices and lessons learned from projects and partners.
Work Experience
While not strictly required for candidates with a Master's degree, a minimum of two years of professional experience in sustainable development project management support (planning, communications, reporting, research) is needed for those with a Bachelor's degree. Desirable experience includes supporting food systems transformation projects, convening communities of practice, developing knowledge products, coordinating multi-partner initiatives, and working with UN organizations.
Skills
Research and analysis, content development, knowledge sharing, community moderation, event facilitation, monitoring and evaluation, partnership coordination, outreach, synthesis of best practices, understanding of power dynamics and inner change in food systems transformation.
