Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the UNDP's Decarbonization and Sustainable Energy team by providing research and analytical skills. The intern will contribute to strategic documents, policy briefs, and reports related to sustainable energy, renewable energy, energy access, and energy transition. The role involves analyzing data, synthesizing research findings, and supporting country office requests to advance global energy ambitions and integrated SDG agendas. The position is home-based, reporting to the Head of the Decarbonization and Sustainable Energy team.
Responsibilities
Conduct research and analysis on key UNDP energy thematic areas, including energy access, energy transition, and energy resilience in fragile contexts. Synthesize data, research findings, and policy documents related to sustainable and renewable energy. Prepare policy briefs on topics such as mini-grid development, productive use of energy, and decarbonization strategies. Develop regular reports and updates on energy for sustainable development and its integration with other SDGs. Support country office requests by providing literature reviews and policy research. Assist in developing partnerships with national and local stakeholders to promote energy access and just energy transitions. Contribute to publications and research papers under supervision.
Work Experience
Relevant work, voluntary, or internship experience in research related to climate change or sustainable energy is required. Familiarity with research activities for development projects promoting energy investment is beneficial. Experience with energy stakeholders (private sector, government, civil society) and field experience in developing countries are advantageous. Prior experience within the UN system is a plus.
Skills
Research and empirical analysis skills focused on sustainable energy for development. Data analytics and research skills relevant to energy access, just energy transition, and energy resilience. Knowledge of policy, business models, and financial mechanisms in low-carbon energy. Understanding of the social, gender, and governance impacts of energy transitions. Strong communication, professionalism, strategic thinking, organizational, and reporting abilities. Ability to work independently and remotely.
