Job Purpose
The Programme Associate for Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) supports the operational execution of the Nature, Climate, and Energy Unit's portfolio. This role contributes to planning, coordinating, and monitoring programmatic activities related to climate change adaptation, sustainable natural resource management, and disaster risk reduction. The incumbent provides advanced technical and administrative support to ensure the quality, compliance, and coherence of interventions, aligning with UNDP policies, national priorities, and international climate commitments. The position is crucial for strengthening the resilience of individuals, households, and communities while accelerating an inclusive, low-carbon development trajectory.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include providing strategic support for developing climate change and DRR strategies, policies, and action plans. The role involves contributing to project and program document development, identifying intervention areas aligned with UNDP's mandate, and participating in UN thematic groups on climate change, DRR, and environment. The Programme Associate will manage project portfolios, ensuring quality control throughout the programming cycle, and support the preparation and organization of project evaluations. This includes managing information and reporting at local and international levels, ensuring results-based management, and analyzing project performance. The role also entails supporting administrative and financial follow-up of programs and projects, preparing Terms of Reference for missions, and contributing to project closure. Additionally, the position supports strategic partnership development, resource mobilization, and promoting project visibility, while also contributing to knowledge management and capacity building for national counterparts.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in programme support, climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, or sustainable development is generally required. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in programme planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting, is highly desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in programme support, climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, project management, partnership development, resource mobilization, data analysis, reporting, and knowledge management. Familiarity with UNDP policies and procedures, including Quantum software, is beneficial.
