Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Italy acts as a strategic platform connecting UNDP with the Italian government, institutions, and development partners. The UNDP Rome Centre for Climate and Energy is a key hub for engagement in climate, energy, and environment, focusing on climate finance, youth engagement, and sustainable energy. The role sits within the Strategy and Partnerships Team, enhancing UNDP's capacity for innovation and stakeholder engagement.
Job Purpose
This role is central to advancing the UNDP Rome Centre's mandate by leading private sector engagement and partnership development. The Specialist will strengthen strategic collaborations with Italian and international stakeholders, translating programme priorities across PISTA, Youth4Climate, and Energy for Growth into concrete, scalable partnerships. The purpose is to drive resource mobilization, foster impactful public-private partnerships, and contribute to high-impact initiatives aligned with UNDP's Strategic Plan and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The position enhances UNDP's visibility and positions it as a strategic partner in European development policy, particularly within the EU's cooperation landscape and frameworks like Global Gateway.
Responsibilities
The Specialist will lead the refinement and day-to-day implementation of the UNDP in Italy and Rome Centre's private sector engagement strategy, designing internal processes and tools to enhance operational effectiveness. This includes identifying strategic collaboration opportunities through research and analysis, and preparing strategic documents. The role involves leading the end-to-end process for establishing private sector partnerships, conducting due diligence, and guiding thematic teams in engaging private sector actors. Responsibilities also include facilitating communication with Italian public administration and private sector stakeholders, driving engagement activities with UNDP Bureaux and units, and leading the planning of partnership-related events. Additionally, the Specialist will support reporting, monitoring, and evaluation activities, provide direct support to the Partnership Team Lead, and contribute to project management and knowledge management, including organizing training and workshops.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in policy, regulation, and international development is required, with a specific familiarity with climate and green energy policy. Previous work experience in climate and energy policy and frameworks is desirable. Basic working knowledge of Italian is an asset.
