National Consultant - Women’s Economic Empowerment
Organizational Context
UN Women is implementing a regional project on "Women's Economic Empowerment in the South Caucasus" (WEESC III) in Azerbaijan, funded by SDC. The project aims to empower women, particularly the poor and socially excluded, by enhancing their economic participation and access to skills and opportunities. This role supports the project's objective of institutionalizing gender-responsive corporate policies and practices within the private sector.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to support UN Women's regional project on Women's Economic Empowerment in Azerbaijan. The consultant will provide technical assistance to private companies to raise awareness and adopt the UN Women/UN Global Compact Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs). The goal is to foster the implementation of gender-responsive corporate policies and practices that enhance women's access to decent work and promote the inclusion of women-owned enterprises in supply chains, contributing to greater economic empowerment for women in the South Caucasus.
Responsibilities
The National Consultant on Women’s Economic Empowerment will promote the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) among private sector partners and business associations in Azerbaijan through meetings. This includes supporting new private enterprises in signing the WEPs and focusing on implementing gender-responsive corporate policies and practices. The consultant will create, update, and maintain coordination efforts around WEPs with focal points in private companies and liaise with the WEPs Secretariat. Key tasks also involve developing success stories in news format about WEP signatory companies and undertaking other WEP promotion activities as requested by UN Women. Additionally, the consultant will map potential WEP signatories, including in ICT and innovation sectors, and conduct targeted outreach through meetings with companies, chambers of commerce, and business associations.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant experience in gender equality and women's empowerment is required. Experience working on these issues within the private sector and experience in coordinating networks are considered assets. Proficiency in computer usage, office software packages (MS Word, Excel), and web-based management systems is also required, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
