Organizational Context

UN Women's Arab States Regional Office is implementing the "Making Every Woman and Girl Count" initiative to improve gender statistics and SDG monitoring. This regional project aims to build systems for measuring SDG 5 and other sex-disaggregated indicators, and to foster collaboration for comprehensive gender statistics and analysis across the Arab States region.

Job Purpose

The Regional Gender Statistics Specialist will oversee the regional implementation of the "Making Every Woman and Girl Count" initiative. This role provides technical leadership, capacity development, and knowledge services to regional and national partners, UN Women offices, and project teams. The specialist will advise senior leadership on strategic engagement, build partnerships, advocate for better gender data, and lead knowledge generation in gender statistics and SDG monitoring to advance gender equality and women's empowerment.

Responsibilities

Oversee the regional implementation of the "Making Every Woman and Girl Count" initiative, ensuring timely and quality project execution aligned with strategic notes and national priorities. Manage programmatic and administrative aspects, including budget planning and performance oversight. Provide technical and policy leadership to UN Women offices and Member States, offering direct support on gender statistics and SDG monitoring. Lead regional capacity-building initiatives and establish a community of practice for knowledge sharing. Develop and manage partnerships with governments, donors, and international agencies. Strengthen relationships with key regional players to advance gender data use. Lead resource mobilization efforts and contribute to normative framework development for gender statistics collection and use. The role involves managing a team and providing supervisory oversight.

Work Experience

Requires at least 7 years of progressive experience in gender statistics and gender equality programming. Experience in leading and managing personnel in international settings is essential. Experience within the UN system, with Oracle Cloud, and in the Arab States region is desirable.
