Organizational Context

UN Women, through its Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP), focuses on governance, peace and security, ending violence against women, and humanitarian action. The Governance, Peace and Security (GPS) Unit leads policy and programme development in these areas, including advancing the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda and emerging priorities like Gender, Climate, Peace and Security. This role supports the GPS Unit's efforts.

Job Purpose

This International Consultant role is designed to analyze local data sources in the Asia-Pacific region, synthesizing findings into evidence sets for interactive communications and policy knowledge products. The consultant will support the assessment of programme needs related to Climate, Peace and Security (CPS) and Women, Peace and Security (WPS) communications, assisting in the preparation of web-based interactive products and data visualizations. The purpose is to translate complex evidence into accessible narratives, support regional data intelligence frameworks, and contribute to the development of knowledge products that integrate regional signals, ultimately strengthening UN Women's policy and advocacy efforts in these critical areas.

Responsibilities

The International Consultant will analyze local data sources in the Asia-Pacific region, synthesizing findings into structured evidence sets for interactive communications and policy-facing knowledge products. Responsibilities include supporting the assessment of programme needs for CPS-WPS communications, identifying relevant data sources, and assisting in the preparation of web-based interactive products and data visualization formats. The consultant will apply data intelligence frameworks, support virtual design workshops with stakeholders, and ensure adherence to do-no-harm protocols for data handling. They will maintain up-to-date knowledge of CPS-WPS developments, collaborate with country-desk colleagues for contextual inputs, and support the coordination of subcontracted technical partners. Additionally, the role involves preparing briefing notes, background papers, and other materials for knowledge products and policy dialogues, and monitoring the uptake of these products.

Work Experience

Requires at least 2 years of progressive work experience at the national or international level in designing, planning, monitoring, and evaluating programs related to Women, Peace and Security, Climate, Peace and Security, and/or Data Management. Experience in creating web-based interactive products and data visualization formats is essential. Experience in programming and advocacy with governments and civil society is also required. Previous experience with UN Women or other UN agencies is an asset, as is experience in the Asia Pacific region. Excellent written English is mandatory.
