Job Purpose
The Project Officer will contribute to the effective management of UN Women projects in Sri Lanka, providing substantive inputs to programme design, formulation, implementation, and evaluation. This role is responsible for coordinating, implementing, and monitoring assigned projects, ensuring alignment with UN Women's goals of gender equality and women's empowerment. The position supports initiatives aimed at enhancing women's economic and social resilience, promoting positive behavior change, and increasing women's participation in leadership and decision-making processes.
Responsibilities
Coordinate and implement assigned projects, including daily management and delivery of outputs, and support assessments and stakeholder coordination. Develop and monitor interventions to shift harmful social norms and promote positive behavior change, and support capacity development programs for women entrepreneurs. Liaise with UN agencies, government counterparts, and partners for activity coordination. Assist in managing project budgets, administration, and procurement according to UN/UN Women rules. Oversee contracting of services, fund release, and liquidation. Monitor and evaluate technical and financial reports from partners, conduct field visits, and prepare internal/external technical reports and donor reports. Support the development of strategic partnerships, conduct research for concept notes and proposals, and identify cost-sharing opportunities. Synthesize good practices and lessons learned to refine project strategies and coordinate knowledge management and advocacy products.
Work Experience
Requires at least 1 year of progressive work experience in implementing gender equality and women's empowerment projects. Essential experience includes technical expertise in Sri Lanka for programme implementation, coordination, monitoring, evaluation, budgeting, and donor reporting. Experience in providing technical input on gender equality for program design, research, or national policies is also required, along with results-based management and multi-stakeholder coordination.
