UN Women is dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. The Division of Communications and Advocacy (DCA) leads global communications and advocacy efforts. This Internal Communications Consultant role sits within DCA, reporting to the Editorial Manager, and supports strengthening internal communications across the organization.
Job Purpose
This role supports UN Women's mission by strengthening internal communications through strategic content and tools. The consultant will work closely with the Internal Communications Analyst to ensure UN Women's workforce is informed about the organization's mission, vision, communication strategy, and outreach. The purpose is to maintain effective communication channels, enhance knowledge management, and foster engagement among UN Women personnel through various internal platforms and products.
Responsibilities
The consultant will support the planning, drafting, and posting of engaging internal news content on the intranet and other platforms, aligning with communication priorities. Responsibilities include maintaining and updating the UN Women intranet and internal events calendar. The role also involves assisting in the organization of key internal meetings, such as townhalls and webinars. Additionally, the consultant will plan, draft, and disseminate the bi-weekly internal newsletter, 'Internal Update,' and monitor analytics for the intranet and newsletter to improve user experience and engagement. Proposing innovative methods to keep personnel informed and engaged on organizational priorities is also a key duty.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years of communications experience, particularly in writing for diverse audiences, is required. Experience in internal communications, women's rights, human rights, or international development is an asset. Proficiency in computer and office software packages, web-based management systems, and basic graphic design skills (e.g., Canva) is also required. Experience within the UN System or a large development agency is desirable.
Skills
Strong communication skills (oral and written), excellent writing and editing, experience in internal communications, ability to take initiative, multitasking, client-orientation, ability to meet deadlines, effective interaction with all organizational levels, positive attitude, good IT skills, data and analytics collection/analysis for intranet platforms, familiarity with gender issues and the UN system.
