The Division of Communications and Advocacy (DCA) spearheads UN Women's worldwide communications, advocacy, and digital presence. This role, reporting to the Editorial Manager, is crucial for shaping UN Women's public voice and thought leadership through compelling website content.
Job Purpose
The Communications & Editorial Specialist is responsible for coordinating, researching, writing, and editing content for the UN Women website. The primary purpose is to ensure that information about UN Women's work, impact stories, thematic priorities, and thought leadership articles are presented convincingly and comprehensively on the organization's main public information platform. This role supports editorial content development and campaign content in collaboration with regional and country offices, aiming to enhance the website's impact and reach.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining an editorial calendar, researching and writing web content, and editing submissions from field offices and HQ sections. The specialist will coordinate translations, support website maintenance, and ensure all content adheres to UN style guides. They will also lead the development and production of editorial packages for special projects and campaigns, solicit and edit content for data-driven storytelling, and monitor content for updates. Building editorial collaboration with country and regional offices, providing editorial feedback, and proactively soliciting submissions are also key duties. Facilitating knowledge building and synergies across multiple platforms for storytelling, and performing other duties as assigned, are also part of the role.
Work Experience
Requires at least 5 years of progressive experience in editorial planning, writing, and editing, preferably related to international development. Experience in producing digital and web-based content for international audiences, using content management systems (CMS), and applying SEO/AI search optimization techniques is essential. Experience in multicultural and international environments is desirable.
