Job Purpose

This consultancy aims to provide technical and programmatic support to UN Women's Leadership of Women in Decision-Making in Political and Public Life section for the Americas and the Caribbean. The role will contribute to strengthening regional, sub-regional, and national parliaments, as well as other strategic actors, to advance women's political participation and leadership, substantive parity, and comprehensive approaches to violence against women in politics. The consultant will support the implementation of the regional portfolio, focusing on analysis, capacity building, and knowledge product development to achieve effective programs and results in the region.

Responsibilities

The consultant will develop an analysis on women's political participation and leadership in prioritized regional/sub-regional parliaments, identifying progress, challenges, and recommendations for substantive parity. This includes analyzing normative frameworks, institutional mechanisms, and parliamentary governance measures. Additionally, the consultant will analyze mechanisms to prevent and address violence against women in politics within these parliaments, proposing actionable recommendations. The role involves providing technical and programmatic support for the implementation of the regional portfolio, including developing technical and knowledge inputs for capacity building, policy advocacy, and dialogue. This includes supporting the preparation, review, and dissemination of substantive documents, presentations, and reports, and coordinating with strategic partners to ensure effective program implementation and monitoring.

Work Experience

A minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience in gender equality, women's empowerment, and political participation is required. Experience in developing analytical documents, technical inputs, and knowledge products related to women's political leadership and violence against women in politics is essential. Experience working with parliaments and regional/sub-regional bodies in Latin America and the Caribbean is highly desirable.
