Organizational Context
UN Women's LAC Regional Office implements the "Making Every Woman and Girl Count" initiative to enhance gender statistics. This role supports regional efforts to strengthen data production, analysis, and use for public policies and SDG monitoring, collaborating with key partners to localize SDGs.
Job Purpose
The Regional Statistics Specialist will oversee the regional implementation of the "Making Every Woman and Girl Count" initiative. This involves providing knowledge and capacity development services to UN Women offices and project teams, strengthening their expertise in gender statistics and SDGs monitoring. The role also supports UN Women's strategic engagement at the regional level, fostering partnerships, advocating for better gender data, and contributing to knowledge generation on gender statistics and SDG implementation.
Responsibilities
Oversee the regional implementation of the "Making Every Woman and Girl Count" initiative, leading project planning and ensuring adherence to quality standards. Manage programmatic and administrative tasks, including budget preparation and performance reporting. Support regional monitoring reports on SDG targets related to gender equality and women's empowerment. Provide substantive technical support to establish UN Women's statistical work in the region. Deliver knowledge and capacity development services, producing guidance notes and conducting training for UN Women offices and Member States. Lead strategic engagement, building partnerships with governments, donors, and international agencies, and advocating for better gender data. Contribute to knowledge management, monitoring, and evaluation of project results, codifying best practices and lessons learned.
Work Experience
Requires at least 7 years of progressive experience in statistics, with specific experience in gender equality and women's empowerment. Experience in the UN system is an asset. Proficiency in computer software, spreadsheet, and database packages is required. Experience with ERP systems like Oracle Cloud is desirable.
