Job Purpose

This consultancy aims to provide dedicated technical, analytical, and coordination support to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) in India, focusing on gender data analysis, statistical publications, and knowledge products. The role is crucial for strengthening gender-responsive policies and data systems within the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. By enhancing gender statistics and analysis, this position contributes to evidence-based policymaking and the overall advancement of gender equality and women's economic empowerment in India, aligning with UN Women's mandate.

Responsibilities

The consultant will provide embedded technical and coordination support within MoSPI, including research, data analysis, collation, organization, and verification of datasets, and preparation of data briefs. Responsibilities include liaising with MoSPI divisions and other ministries, facilitating coordination meetings, and maintaining a repository of project materials. Key tasks involve supporting the development of analytical gender bulletins by compiling, cleaning, and validating data from various national and international sources, and contributing to statistical tables and visualizations. The role also supports the 'Women and Men in India' and 'Elderly in India' publications by providing technical inputs for gender-responsive analysis, indicators, and visual presentation. Furthermore, the consultant will document key processes, support knowledge management, and contribute to capacity-building activities, consultations, and dissemination workshops on gender data and statistics.

Work Experience

Requires a minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in gender statistics, socio-economic analysis, public policy research, or official statistics. Demonstrated experience with large-scale national datasets and preparing analytical reports or publications is essential. Experience in quantitative and qualitative research, translating findings into policy recommendations, and familiarity with India's statistical system are highly desirable. Experience with UN agencies or government ministries is also preferred.
