Job Purpose
The Communication and Advocacy Analyst supports the UN Women Japan Liaison Office (JLO) in implementing advocacy, outreach, and communications activities to increase UN Women's profile in Japan. Working under the Director of JLO and in coordination with HQ Communications, the role focuses on building relationships with media institutions and supporting alliance-building activities with the private sector, including initiatives like the Unstereotype Alliance Japan National Chapter, HeForShe, and WEPs. The position also contributes to engaging youth groups and promoting gender equality and women's empowerment through strategic communications and partnerships.
Responsibilities
The Communication and Advocacy Analyst will support the planning and implementation of advocacy and outreach activities, ensuring alignment with UN Women's Strategic Plan and corporate priorities. This includes liaising with UN Women colleagues globally, tracking progress, and suggesting improvements. The role involves drafting and adapting communication materials for dissemination, providing logistical support for campaign launches and events, and creating content for partner visibility, reporting, website updates, and social media. Additionally, the analyst will assist in maintaining media relationships, responding to inquiries, monitoring media trends, and supporting media events. A key function is supporting advocacy partnerships, particularly with the private sector through initiatives like the Unstereotype Alliance, HeForShe, and WEPs, including preparing materials and coordinating with partners. The role also involves liaising with the UN Women Japan National Committee and supporting communications for key international days.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant experience is required in areas such as journalism, public relations, private sector engagement, advocacy, international relations, marketing, development, advertising, or digital communications, with a focus on gender issues. Familiarity with media relations across various platforms, organizing events, and experience with UN Women or other UN organizations are advantageous. Knowledge of the Japanese private sector and strong writing skills for reports and briefing notes are also beneficial.
