UN Women is dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. The Political Analysis and Programme Development Unit (PAPDU), within the Policy, Programme and Inter-Governmental Affairs Division, provides crucial gender-responsive political and contextual analysis to inform UN Women's strategic decision-making and mandate advancement. This role, reporting to the Deputy Director of PPID, is part of the PPID leadership team.
Job Purpose
This role leads the development of gender-responsive political analysis and strategic advice to inform UN Women's foresight, programming, and global policy engagement. It provides political insights and cross-regional analysis on key issues and trends to support executive leadership and engagement with Member States. The position serves as a resource hub for UN Women offices, facilitating technical inputs and promoting cross-regional knowledge sharing. It also coordinates UN Women's contributions to system-wide prevention platforms and oversees follow-up on key decisions, strengthening organizational accountability and strategic influence within the UN prevention architecture.
Responsibilities
Lead the development of strategic, high-quality, gender-responsive political analysis for countries and regions to inform UN Women's foresight, programming, and global policy engagement. Provide political insights and periodic global/cross-regional analysis on key issues, trends, and crisis situations to support executive leadership and engagement with Member States. Serve as a resource hub for UN Women Country and Regional Offices throughout the programme cycle, facilitating technical inputs and promoting cross-regional knowledge sharing. Coordinate UN Women's contributions to system-wide prevention platforms and oversee follow-up on decisions. Build and maintain partnerships with Member States through regular communication, providing information on UN Women initiatives and gender equality concerns. Support political outreach for intergovernmental processes and contribute to UN Women's strategy for various country income levels. Coordinate UN Women's involvement in South-South and Triangular Cooperation on gender equality. Lead cross-regional collaboration and knowledge management by collecting and disseminating best practices. Manage and oversee the team, ensuring high-quality performance reviews and timely completion of work plans and reports.
Work Experience
Requires at least 10 years of extensive development programme experience, including in gender equality and women's rights at the international level, preferably within the UN system. Technical expertise in UN Women's Strategic Plan thematic areas is essential. Experience in inter-agency processes, political and context analysis, and ERP systems like Oracle Cloud is desirable.
