Job Purpose

This role is to design and conduct a crucial study on violence against Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs) and women journalists in Georgia. The study aims to generate evidence on the prevalence, nature, drivers, and consequences of violence experienced by these groups, both online and offline. The findings will be essential for informing policies, programs, and protection measures to support their work and well-being. The research will contribute to strengthening the evidence base needed to address the disproportionate exposure to violence faced by WHRDs and women journalists, ultimately informing future programming, advocacy, and policy dialogue to enhance gender equality and democratic processes in Georgia.

Responsibilities

The International Researcher will be responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive study on violence against Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs) and women journalists in Georgia. Key duties include preparing an inception report detailing the study design, methodology, sampling strategy, ethical considerations, and work plan. The researcher will develop and pilot a survey questionnaire to assess online and offline violence, including physical, psychological, economic, and sexual forms. Data collection will involve both quantitative (at least 100 respondents) and qualitative components, such as focus group discussions and in-depth interviews. The role also entails cleaning, processing, and analyzing collected data, preparing analytical findings, and drafting a comprehensive report with conclusions and recommendations. The researcher will revise the report based on feedback and present key findings to UN Women and stakeholders.

Work Experience

Requires at least seven years of professional experience (or nine with a bachelor's degree) in research on gender equality, violence against women, human rights, or media freedom. Proven experience in designing and implementing quantitative/mixed-methods research, including survey development and data analysis, is essential. Experience in research on technology-facilitated gender-based violence, digital safety, or related issues is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality analytical reports and experience with relevant stakeholder groups are also required.
