Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to provide substantive expertise and facilitate a two-day regional meeting focused on gender equality, women's rights, and legal reform, specifically concerning personal status and family laws across the Arab States region. The role is crucial for advancing UN Women's mandate by fostering dialogue and developing recommendations among stakeholders. The consultant will work under the guidance of UN Women's Regional Governance Adviser, collaborating with various UN Women units and engaging key partners to ensure effective outcomes and contribute to the broader goals of gender equality and women's empowerment in the region.
Responsibilities
The consultant is responsible for facilitating a two-day regional meeting, providing substantive expertise on gender equality, women's rights, personal status laws, and family law reform within the Arab States region. Key duties include reviewing background materials and the agenda, facilitating all sessions and discussions, guiding dialogue on the specified legal and gender equality topics, moderating plenaries and breakout groups, and preparing a comprehensive summary report with actionable recommendations. The role involves close collaboration with UN Women's Regional Governance Adviser, Programme Specialist, and other relevant UN Women offices and stakeholders.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional national or international experience in gender equality, women's rights, and legal reform is required. Experience in facilitating high-level regional consultations and demonstrated expertise in personal status and family laws within the Arab States region are also essential. Academic, research, or legal scholarship experience is considered desirable.
Skills
Meeting facilitation, gender equality expertise, women's rights advocacy, legal reform knowledge, personal status and family law expertise (Arab States region), strong understanding of gender issues and regional contexts.
