Organizational Context
UN Women's Regional Office for the Arab States (ROAS) supports country offices and provides technical assistance across the region. As part of the "Making Every Woman and Girl Count" initiative, ROAS partners with UN ESCWA to produce "Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals in Arab States: The Gender Snapshot, 2026." This report will highlight gender equality progress and gaps across all SDGs, aiming to foster data-driven decision-making among regional stakeholders.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to lead the production of the "Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals for the Arab States: The Gender Snapshot, 2026." The consultant will assess progress and identify gender-specific gaps in achieving the SDGs across the Arab States region. The report will present evidence on gender equality indicators, emphasize interlinkages between goals, and highlight women and girls' roles. It will serve as a tool to encourage stakeholders, including National Statistical Offices and Women's Machineries, to utilize gender data for policy and programming, ultimately advancing gender equality and women's empowerment in the region.
Responsibilities
The consultant will conduct desktop research on gender-related SDG indicators in Arab states and collect available national data. This includes assessing data availability and consulting with national stakeholders like Statistical Offices and women's machineries to understand their focus and progress. The consultant will compile research findings, analyze data, and produce a regional aggregate for each gender-related SDG indicator in an Excel file. They will also draft the "Gender Snapshot" report, incorporating guidance from UN Women ROAS and ESCWA, and making revisions based on their review. Finally, the consultant will support data visualization, final editing, and layout of the report in collaboration with communications teams.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of experience is required in designing and executing gender data research projects, preferably related to SDGs. Experience in leading regional gender data research initiatives, producing high-quality research publications on gender data, working with UN agencies, and experience in the Arab States region are desirable.
