Job Purpose
The Communications and Advocacy Consultant will lead UN Women's advocacy, outreach, and communications efforts in Japan to increase the organization's profile. This role involves developing and implementing advocacy and outreach strategies, managing media relations, and building partnerships with various sectors, including the private sector, to advance gender equality and women's empowerment.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement strategic work plans for advocacy and outreach activities, enhancing communication strategies through media analysis and trend identification. Coordinate with UN Women divisions globally to strengthen advocacy partnerships. Design and execute a comprehensive communications strategy utilizing website and social media, producing content for visibility and disseminating it to key influencers. Facilitate media interviews, manage media relations, and organize events like press conferences. Lead advocacy work for the Unstereotype Alliance Japan National Chapter, develop strategies for the HeForShe Initiative, and increase Women's Empowerment Principles signatories. Expand private sector outreach and coordinate with the UN Women Japan National Committee.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in journalism, public relations, private sector, advocacy, marketing, development, or digital communications, with a focus on gender issues. Proven experience in media relations across traditional, digital, and social media platforms is essential. Demonstrated experience in planning and organizing events, workshops, and study sessions is required. Experience with UN Women or other UN organizations, and with the Japanese private sector, is advantageous.
Skills
Solid understanding of gender equality and women's empowerment globally and in Japan. Ability to synthesize data for analysis and presentation. Outstanding writing skills in English and Japanese, capable of translating complex issues. Ability to convey concepts effectively and visually, with innovative ideas. Strong planning, organization, and reporting skills. Client orientation.
