Organizational Context
UN Women in Niger is addressing complex challenges at the intersection of conflict, climate change, and gender inequality. The country faces recurrent climate shocks and resource pressures that exacerbate socio-economic vulnerabilities and community tensions. Women and girls are disproportionately affected by these crises, facing insecurity, food insecurity, and limited access to resources, despite their crucial role in community resilience.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to conduct an integrated assessment of gender, climate, and security risks and opportunities in Niger. The evaluation will produce analytical data and strategic recommendations to inform national policies and programs, supporting the integration of gender-sensitive approaches in climate action and peacebuilding initiatives. The role supports the International Consultant in this crucial assessment, working collaboratively with national stakeholders and under the leadership of the Ministry of Environment.
Responsibilities
The National Consultant will support an integrated evaluation of gender, climate, and security risks and opportunities in Niger. Key responsibilities include conducting a documentary review of existing national strategies and available data on gender, climate, and security linkages. The consultant will develop and validate a methodology and data collection tools, then collect qualitative and quantitative data through consultations with national institutions, civil society, and technical partners. Analysis of collected data will lead to the production of an evaluation report with findings and recommendations. The consultant will also present study results at a national workshop and finalize the report incorporating stakeholder feedback.
Work Experience
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in research or policy analysis related to gender, climate, or security. At least 3 years of proven experience in conducting analytical studies or strategic evaluations for international organizations. Knowledge of international frameworks on Women, Peace, and Security and climate policies is required. Experience in West Africa or fragile contexts is an asset.
