UN Women is dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. In Niger, complex challenges of conflict, climate change, and gender inequality intersect. Climate shocks exacerbate socio-economic vulnerabilities, impacting women and girls disproportionately. This consultancy supports a project to integrate gender into climate, peace, and security efforts, aiming to improve understanding and inform policy.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to conduct an integrated assessment of gender, climate, and security risks and opportunities in Niger. The purpose is to generate analytical data and strategic recommendations to inform national policies and programs. The assessment will focus on understanding the differentiated impacts of climate and security crises on women, men, and youth, and identifying opportunities for integrating gender-sensitive approaches into peacebuilding and climate action initiatives.
Responsibilities
The consultant will conduct a comprehensive review of national strategies related to gender, climate, and security, and analyze available data on their interlinkages. A detailed methodology for the integrated assessment will be developed and validated. Data collection will involve consultations with national institutions, civil society, and producer organizations, gathering qualitative and quantitative information. The consultant will analyze the collected data, produce a draft evaluation report, and present findings at a national workshop. Finally, feedback will be integrated to finalize the report, ensuring strategic and operational recommendations are formulated to strengthen gender integration in climate policies, conflict prevention, and peacebuilding programs.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in research or policy analysis related to gender, climate, or security. At least 5 years of proven experience in conducting analytical studies or strategic evaluations for international organizations. Knowledge of international frameworks for Women, Peace, and Security and climate policies is required. Experience in West Africa or fragile contexts is an asset.
