Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to develop a comprehensive framework and programme proposals for UN Women to enhance the gender-responsive implementation of trade agreements in Asia and the Pacific. The objective is to identify concrete actions that leverage trade policies, such as Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and Generalized System of Preferences (GSPs), to expand economic opportunities for women workers and women-owned businesses. The role will contribute to ensuring that trade initiatives promote gender equality and women's economic agency.
Responsibilities
The consultant will develop an inception workplan and analytical framework, and conduct a thorough review of literature and policies related to gender-responsive trade. This includes mapping relevant trade agreements in Asia and the Pacific, identifying gender provisions, and analyzing implementation mechanisms. Key informant interviews will be conducted to gather stakeholder insights. The consultant will identify opportunities for UN Women to support gender-responsive implementation, map existing successful initiatives, and develop a comprehensive UN Women framework. Additionally, the consultant will define UN Women's value proposition, identify partners, and create a donor-facing programme proposal for gender-responsive trade agreement implementation.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of 7 years of professional experience in international trade, trade policy, economic development, or gender equality. Demonstrated experience in analyzing trade agreements, integrating gender equality into trade programs, and experience in Asia and the Pacific are essential. Experience with developing strategic frameworks and working with international organizations is also required.
