Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to provide technical expertise for UN Women's participatory photography projects in Cambodia, supporting both the EmPower and PROTECT programmes. The role involves guiding the design and implementation of photography competitions, exhibitions, and dissemination activities. It also includes capacity building for partner organizations, engaging universities, and analyzing photographic data to produce human-interest stories. The ultimate goal is to amplify women's voices, promote gender equality, and raise awareness on critical issues through visual storytelling and community engagement.
Responsibilities
Under the EmPower programme, the consultant will provide technical support for a photo competition, including judging and dissemination, and lead the design of a national photo exhibition with accompanying dialogues. They will also guide sub-national photo dissemination and exhibitions and conduct technical reviews of knowledge products. For the PROTECT project's 7000 Photo initiative, the consultant will lead capacity building for partners, coordinate university engagement for peer networks, and analyze the Photolanguage approach to develop human-interest stories. This includes developing concept notes for university engagement and facilitating discussions on gender equality and violence against women, highlighting women migrant workers' agency.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in participatory photography, including practice, teaching, and analysis, is required. At least two years of experience in teaching or training in photography or visual storytelling is necessary. Experience engaging with marginalized communities through photography and familiarity with the Southeast Asian cultural context, particularly Cambodia, are advantageous. Proven experience collaborating with development practitioners like CSOs and UN organizations is also required.
