Organizational Context
UN Women in Bangladesh works to eliminate discrimination against women and girls, empower women, and achieve gender equality. This role supports the "Ending sexual and gender-based violence in public spaces, in the context of work and tertiary educational settings in Bangladesh" (ESGBV) project, a collaboration between UN Women and the University Grants Commission (UGC). The consultant will assist the UGC in implementing project initiatives aimed at preventing and responding to gender-based violence within universities.
Job Purpose
This National Consultant role is designed to provide crucial coordination and support to the University Grants Commission (UGC) in Bangladesh for the implementation of the ESGBV project. The primary purpose is to strengthen institutional mechanisms within universities to prevent and respond to sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). The consultant will facilitate collaboration between UN Women, the UGC, participating universities, and other stakeholders, ensuring the effective execution of project activities. This includes supporting the development and implementation of SGBV prevention strategies, coordinating meetings and events, and contributing to monitoring and reporting efforts, ultimately fostering safer educational environments for women and girls.
Responsibilities
The consultant will coordinate and support the University Grants Commission (UGC) in implementing the ESGBV project workplan. This involves organizing and documenting periodic meetings, maintaining communication with UN Women and its partners, and arranging logistics for project events, workshops, and training sessions. The role includes liaising with the five selected universities to gather implementation updates and coordinating with relevant government bodies like MoWCA/DWA. Additionally, the consultant will provide technical and logistical support for data collection, facilitate interviews and focus group discussions, and assist in drafting communication materials and reports. A key responsibility is supporting the development and analysis of data from an online monitoring tool for SGBV prevention and response mechanisms, ensuring alignment with legal frameworks and reporting requirements.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience is required for day-to-day coordination support with high-level multi-stakeholders involved in gender equality. Experience in organizing consultations, workshops, and dialogues is essential. Additionally, at least 2 years of experience in preparing reports, meeting documentation, and communication materials is needed. Experience with online monitoring and reporting tools, data analysis, and report writing is also required. Experience working with UN agencies or international organizations on gender equality issues is considered an asset.
Skills
Excellent communication, coordination, and relationship management skills. Strong understanding of the higher education sector in Bangladesh and familiarity with gender equality policies are advantageous. Proficiency in both Bangla and English (oral and written) is essential.
