Organizational Context

UN Women in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) works to eliminate gender-based violence and inequality, supporting civil society organizations (CSOs) crucial for this mission. Many CSOs face funding challenges, hindering their ability to sustain operations and effectively advocate for women's rights. The Gender Equality Accelerator (GEA) Joint Programme aims to strengthen institutional mechanisms and service delivery, with this role supporting CSOs in fundraising and donor engagement.

Job Purpose

This consultancy aims to enhance the capacity of 10 selected civil society organizations (CSOs) in Bosnia and Herzegovina to secure sustainable funding and engage effectively with donors. The National Consultant for Fundraising and Donor Engagement will collaborate with a Capacity-Building Expert to design and implement a comprehensive program. This includes needs assessments, training on fundraising strategies, donor mapping, communication, and diversification of income streams. The role directly supports CSOs in improving their service delivery and advocacy efforts, contributing to Outcome 1.4 of the GEA Joint Programme and complementing broader EU-funded initiatives for gender equality and social assistance.

Responsibilities

The consultant will design and deliver structured training on fundraising strategy and donor engagement for 10 selected CSOs. This includes developing comprehensive training content covering donor mapping, strategic communication, income stream diversification (grants, earned income, CSR, crowdfunding), and donor relationship management. The consultant will facilitate at least three group training sessions and provide individual mentoring sessions to each CSO, focusing on their specific fundraising needs and plan development. Additionally, the consultant will support CSOs in preparing for a networking event with potential donors by designing and facilitating a preparation workshop and providing individual coaching on presentation skills and messaging. Practical tools, templates, and a resource list of funding opportunities will be developed and shared. The consultant will also jointly develop a programme design, workplan, needs assessment questionnaire, and summary report with a Capacity-Building Expert.

Work Experience

A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in fundraising, donor relations, resource mobilization, or strategic communications is required. Demonstrated experience designing and facilitating training or advisory services for CSOs on fundraising strategy or donor engagement is essential. Experience with diverse funding sources relevant to CSOs in Bosnia and Herzegovina is highly desired, as is experience in gender equality or ending violence against women initiatives.
