Organizational Context

UN Women in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) works to eliminate discrimination against women and girls and achieve gender equality. The country faces significant gender-based violence and inequality. The Gender Equality Accelerator (GEA) Joint Programme, funded by Denmark and the EU, aims to strengthen institutional mechanisms, enhance service delivery, promote economic empowerment, and advance prevention efforts. This role supports the GEA Programme by building the capacity of civil society organizations.

Job Purpose

This consultancy aims to strengthen the capacity of 10 selected civil society organizations (CSOs) in Bosnia and Herzegovina to access sustainable funding. The National Consultant for Capacity-Building will work collaboratively with a Fundraising and Donor Engagement Expert to design and implement a comprehensive program. This includes needs assessments, training on project proposal writing and fundraising strategies, and support for a networking event connecting CSOs with potential donors. The role directly contributes to improving the ability of CSOs to deliver services and advocacy for women and girls, aligning with UN Women's Gender Equality Accelerator Programme and EU-funded initiatives.

Responsibilities

The Capacity-Building Expert will design and deliver a structured program for 10 CSOs in Bosnia and Herzegovina focused on enhancing their fundraising and proposal writing skills. Key responsibilities include jointly developing the program design and workplan, conducting a needs assessment, and producing a summary report. The consultant will create and deliver training content on identifying funding opportunities, proposal components, results-based management, budgeting, and reporting. This involves facilitating group training sessions and providing individual mentoring to CSOs. Additionally, the consultant will support CSOs in preparing for a networking event with potential donors by designing a preparation workshop and providing individual coaching. The role also involves developing practical tools, templates, and guides to support CSOs' long-term capacity and coordinating joint deliverables with the Fundraising and Donor Engagement Expert.

Work Experience

Requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in capacity-building, training, facilitation, or program management within the civil society, development, or humanitarian sectors. Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering training on project proposal writing, grant management, or access to funding for CSOs is essential. Experience in developing training curricula, toolkits, or practical guidance materials for CSOs is also required. Experience in gender equality, ending violence against women, women's rights, or inclusion of marginalized groups is highly desired. Experience with UN agencies or international organizations in Bosnia and Herzegovina or the Western Balkans is an asset.
