Job Purpose
The purpose of this consultancy is to significantly contribute to strengthening women civil society organizations (WCSOs) in Afghanistan, enabling them to advance their critical work in a complex humanitarian context. The consultant will provide comprehensive support to the WCSO Unit, focusing on three key areas: grantmaking and partner management, facilitating coalition building and knowledge sharing among WCSOs, and communications support. This role is instrumental in ensuring the effective implementation of a project designed to offer core and project grants, technical assistance, and capacity-building support to WCSOs. By fostering institutional and adaptive capacity, strengthening direct implementation, and building peer support networks, the consultant helps protect and advance the gains of Afghan women and girls, ensuring their continued participation in shaping their country's development.
Responsibilities
The consultant will provide comprehensive programme support for grantmaking and partner management, including technical and operational assistance for planning, processing, and implementing grant processes. This involves drafting key grantmaking documents, preparing and reviewing partner documentation, coordinating with various teams for timely onboarding and agreement processing, and tracking partner submissions and compliance. The role also entails maintaining organized records and supporting capacity development for programme partners on grant management and reporting. A key responsibility is facilitating coalition building and knowledge sharing among Women's Civil Society Organizations (WCSOs). This includes coordinating peer-to-peer exchange activities, identifying learning needs, facilitating consultations, and moderating virtual learning sessions. The consultant will develop knowledge products to disseminate insights and foster collaboration and networking among WCSOs. Furthermore, the consultant will provide communications support to the WCSO Programme Unit. This involves developing position papers, monitoring developments related to WCSOs in Afghanistan, analyzing trends, and contributing to policy documents and strategic papers. Producing briefs on programme results and partner spotlights, drafting talking points, briefing notes, and public information materials are also crucial tasks. Additionally, the consultant will offer administrative support and mentor national staff in programme, coordination, and grantmaking areas.
Work Experience
At least two years of relevant work experience in international development, programme implementation, including coordination, monitoring and evaluation, donor reporting, and capacity building, is required. Experience in civil society and with women’s issues is desirable. Prior experience within the United Nations System is also considered an asset.
Skills
Good knowledge of operation, finance, procurement, human resources, ICT, and security systems and processes, particularly within the UN system. Ability to provide advice and support. Ability to contribute to the formulation and monitoring of management projects. Ability to handle confidential information. Negotiating skills. Good IT skills.
