This role supports a project in Sierra Leone aimed at enhancing women's participation and leadership within the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), improving their opportunities for peacekeeping deployments through policy promotion, training, and accountability measures.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to enhance the participation and leadership of women within the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), thereby increasing the pool of uniformed women available for peacekeeping missions. The role will focus on promoting institutional policies, improving training facilities, and ensuring accountability for sexual harassment and abuse. The consultant will provide technical support in designing advocacy materials, coordinating communications, and ensuring visibility for gender equality initiatives within the RSLAF and for UN Women's broader mandate.
Responsibilities
The consultant will develop and promote high-quality advocacy materials, including concept notes and a detailed Communication Strategy aligned with project objectives and UN Women standards. Responsibilities include providing technical assistance in media engagement and relations, producing and promoting communication and reporting products, and ensuring timely reporting on deliverables. Key tasks involve creating inspirational videos, documentaries, and other communication outputs that highlight the contributions and journeys of female RSLAF personnel, supporting the popularization of RSLAF policies, and contributing to project visibility.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of experience in communications, advocacy, or public relations is required, with at least 5 years in communications, events, or campaign management, preferably with international organizations. Graphic design and video editing skills are desirable. Experience managing stakeholders, knowledge of the UN system and Sierra Leone's policy environment, and expertise in gender equality and women's empowerment are essential.
