This role supports the expansion of the WEE portfolio by enhancing its visibility, influence, and impact through strategic communications and advocacy.
Job Purpose
The Communications Specialist will lead the development and implementation of communications, advocacy, digital engagement, and stakeholder outreach strategies for UN Women's Women's Economic Empowerment (WEE) portfolio in Asia and the Pacific. Reporting to the Regional WEE Lead, this role is crucial for increasing the visibility and impact of WEE initiatives. The specialist will manage media relations, oversee digital communications, produce communication materials, and foster partnerships to strengthen UN Women's influence and advance gender equality in economic spheres across the region.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement comprehensive communications and advocacy strategies for the WEE portfolio, ensuring alignment with UN Women's regional and corporate priorities. Produce and disseminate a range of communication materials, including press releases, articles, and success stories, and supervise the creation of multimedia content. Manage media relations, organize press briefings, and oversee WEE-related web and social media content, developing digital campaigns and monitoring performance. Build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including partners, governments, and donors, to enhance program visibility. Document lessons learned and best practices, and provide training to staff on communications and advocacy, including the use of AI tools. Track communications performance using analytics and prepare reports, recommending improvements based on data insights.
Work Experience
Requires at least 5 years of progressive experience in communications, advocacy, public information, digital communications, media relations, or stakeholder engagement. Demonstrated experience advising senior leadership and implementing initiatives at a regional or international level is essential. Experience with international organizations, the UN system, or private sector partners, and familiarity with AI communication tools and gender equality issues are desirable.
