Organizational Context
UN Women in Lebanon supports the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda by advancing women's participation in political dialogue, conflict prevention, and peacebuilding. The organization convenes and supports dialogue initiatives to strengthen women's engagement and foster confidence-building. This role is crucial for advancing these efforts by providing strategic and technical expertise.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to provide strategic and technical expertise for the design, facilitation, and documentation of a Track 1.5 dialogue process in Lebanon. The Senior Mediation Advisor will develop dialogue methodologies, facilitate high-level discussions, produce analytical outputs, and offer advice to ensure the process is conflict-sensitive, gender-responsive, and aligns with international best practices in mediation and inclusive dialogue. The role directly supports UN Women's efforts to promote sustainable peace and political stability through enhanced women's engagement.
Responsibilities
Provide strategic advice to the UN Women Representative on the design, positioning, and implementation of the Track 1.5 dialogue process, ensuring alignment with the WPS agenda and UN Women's priorities. Lead the design of the dialogue architecture and methodology, including defining objectives, sequencing sessions, identifying thematic areas, and developing facilitation approaches. Conduct political and stakeholder analysis to identify risks and opportunities, providing timely recommendations. Design, facilitate, and moderate high-level dialogue sessions using conflict-sensitive and gender-responsive mediation approaches. Prepare and deliver high-quality technical and analytical products such as strategies, concept notes, reports, and briefs in English and Arabic. Advise on engagement strategies with political actors, institutions, and partners to enhance the dialogue's effectiveness and sustainability. Capture and synthesize lessons learned to inform future mediation and peacebuilding initiatives.
Work Experience
Requires at least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in international affairs and conflict resolution at the national or international level. Experience in facilitation of high-level political dialogue and engaging different tracks of dialogue across the Middle East is essential. Experience with gender/women, peace, and security issues in Lebanon is desirable. Proficiency in using office software packages is also required.
